For 2017 we will select a K-5th grade economic educator and a 6th-12th grade economic educator. These award winners will also be considered for the 2017 Kansas Council for the Social Studies Educator of the Year.

The Kansas Council for Economic Education recognizes educators who actively engage their students in economics.
The deadline to receive nominations is September 1st so be sure to mark your calendar to submit your nomination!
Teachers may nominate themselves or may be nominated by a peer, school administrator, curriculum specialist, community or business representative or a director of a Center for Economic Education.

2016 Economic Educator of the Year
The Kansas Council for Economic Education is excited to award Mr. Budetti as this year’s award recipient. Mr. Budetti is a champion for economic education. Each year his students have exhibited a strong knowledge of the subject but they have also show an excitement for economic education that is obviously a result of his love of economics and teaching.
His gift includes a $100 gift card and a free trip to the 2017 Kansas State Social Studies Conference in Wichita.
BIO: Tony Budetti teaches at Shawnee Mission South High School, where he is in his 23rd year of teaching. He has taught AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics for the last 8 years at Shawnee Mission South, and also teaches Advanced Placement American Government. He has undergrad degrees from the University of Florida (Political Science), and the University of Missouri-Kansas City (History, Secondary Education). His graduate work was completed at the University of Kansas (MPA). His teaching career includes positions at Wyandotte, and Shawnee Mission Northwest before heading to Shawnee Mission South.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Budetti is the coach for the girls basketball team at Shawnee Mission Northwest and enjoys sponsoring student activities and clubs at South. His Economics Challenge teams have enjoyed success competing at the State of Kansas event hosted by the Kansas Council for Economic Education, in conjunction with Wichita State University. His teams have won the Kansas Championship title twice, and have had a second place showing as well. Shawnee Mission South has also had 2 students win the highest individual score.
Mr. Budetti is married to his wife Marty. They have three children: Sam, Julia, and Ava.
